A milliner makes and sells ladies hats
It sounds simple. Millners worked in a mill where yarn is woven by huge pre-programmed looms making fabric. There were mills all over the south before companies started moving their operations overseas. One such mill was in Columbiana, AL. The days were long and hot for the workers, the mill looms run 24 hours per day. When a spool of yarn ran out or broke, it was replaced by stopping the "run". The worker climbed into the maze of yarns, rethreaded the system and restarted the "run". There were also, mills in North Carolina, one that I personally visited in the 1960's was Burlington Industries.
I am sure there are statistics somewhere that tell how many mills have left the US for other countries.
I hope this answers your question.
