For those of you who didn't know, this nursery rhyme was written as a warning for the Bubonic Plague. Ring around the rosie,This line was symbolic of the red splotches plague victims would get on their skin. Pocketful of posie, Posie, a flower, was believed to keep you from getting the plague, especially since "doctors" wore birdlike masks full of the stuff to prevent contamination. Ashes, ashes, Plague victims bodies were burned along with all of their possessions and home. We all fall down. This is just a remembrance of how many people "fell" (died) due to the plague. Creepy isn't it? School children run around memorializing a dark period in history without even knowing it
The song 'Ring Around The Rosie' was based off of the bubonic plague that was spread in England and surrounding countries in the 1800's. Your childhood is ruined now.
