The sciatic nerve is the largest and longest single nerve in the human body, about as big around as a thumb at its largest point. The nerve originates in the lower spine as nerve roots exit the spinal cord (through the bones in the spine), and extends all the way down the back of the leg to the toes. The sciatic nerve is actually a combination of nerves. It is formed on the right and left hand side of the lower spine by the combination of the fourth and fifth lumbar nerves and the first three nerves in the sacral spine. Each nerve exits the spine between two vertebral segments and is named for the segment above it.
Down your lower back to your toes
the sciatica nerve runs through your back, down through the buttocks into your leg.
It begins in the lower back and runs through the buttock and down the lower limb.:)
these nerves are the largest in the body, with a diameter as great as a finger
What is the best painkiller for sciatic nerve
How do you treat a sciatic nerve
The best place to palpate the sciatic nerve is deep in the buttock. It exists the pelvic area just under the piriformis. If you place your foot on a chair and find the ischial tuberosity (the butt bone - the ones we sit on) and move laterally, you will be on or near the sciatic nerve.
Since nerve cells don't usually divide when they are fully mature, there is no function for them at that time. However, they did at one time need them and they are left in place.
Cranial nerve #2 - optic nerve - special sensory for vision Cranial nerve #3 - occulomotor nerve - motor for extraoccular muscles & parasympathetic to ciliary ganglion Cranial nerve #4 - trochlear nerve - motor for extraoccular muscle (superior oblique) Cranial nerve #6 - abduscens nerve - motor for extraoccular muscle (lateral rectus)
That is the place on the retina where the optic nerve exits the eye; there are no light receptors there. In your left eye it is left of the center of the field of vision, and in the right eye it is right of the center of the field of vision. So physically, they are both inside of center. It is fun to demonstrate the blind spots and it is easily done.
The blind spot is also called the optic nerve head. It is located on the retina, about 15 degrees horizontal from center vision.

The upper outer quadrant is the safest area because there is the least risk of hitting the sciatic nerve.

The "sciatic nerve" (pronounced "sigh + attic") is the longest nerve in the human body. It provides sensory communication between the brain and most of the buttocks and legs. This sensory communication goes in both directions, and includes pain messages that travel from the legs to the brain, as well as information on how to move the leg that travels from the brain to the muscles in the leg. Five separate nerves from the upper body combine to form the sciatic nerve. These nerves, known as S1, S2, S3, L4 and L5, come together in the upper part of the buttocks. From there, small nerve branches emerge and provide sensory communication to the hip joint. The main strand extends down the back of the leg to the knee, where it splits again into separate strands. The "tibial" strand continues down the back the leg and "innervates," or provides sensory perception and communication for, the heel and sole of the foot. The "peroneal" strand travels around the outside of the knee, down the side of the leg, and innervates the front part of the lower leg and the upper part of the foot. The largest segment of the nerve is the size of a person's thumb. The most common health problem associated with the sciatic nerve is known as "sciatica." Sciatica occurs when the S, L, or main sciatic nerve branches are compressed or pinched. Symptoms for sciatica include pain, numbness, tingling, weak muscles or movement difficulties in the lower back, buttocks, legs or feet. Spinal disc herniation is one common cause of sciatica. It may result from twisting and bending motions, which place unusual stress on the soft material inside the vertebrae. These movements may cause the soft material to rupture, spilling fluids into the narrow opening that allows the nerves to pass through the vertebrae, thus causing inflammation that compresses the nerve. Another common cause of sciatica is "piriformis syndrome." In most people, the sciatic nerve is below the piriformis muscle, a muscle in the buttocks region. However, in some people, the nerve passes through that muscle. When that muscle is compressed, the sciatic nerve is also compressed. Piriformis compression can be caused by something as simple as a large wallet in a hip pocket.
In the brain but not in any exact place as it is an epiphenomenon of all the nerve connections throughout the brain.
