If you have a social security number you could go to your local social security department and possibly find out what state your s.s.# was issued in. You then could notify the capital of this state and they would be able to assist you in obtaining your record of birth. Some states charge a minimal fee for getting a copy of your birth certificate. If you have no social security card, I would contact your state capitol for a copy of your birth certificate first then go to your social security office with the copy of your birth certificate to obtain a social security card. I hope this helps you.
If your father doesn't have a copy, you need to contact the County Hall of Records or Office of Vital Records, from the state where you were born. If your original copy was lost, misplaced or stolen, you request a duplicate, certified copy; so when you get it, it will bear the state seal or stamp.
You need a certified copy for official identification, such as obtaining a drivers license, getting a new Social Security Card, passport or Military Enlistment. You may need your father to help you with this if you are under 18, as laws vary from state to state. The following is a sample of the "state requirements" found in several state :
The registrant is over 18 years of age.
The registrant submits a signed application. (may be available to download on line)
The registrant submits the appropriate fees.
The registrant provides valid government issued identification or notarized signature on the application. (By mail, you will need a notarized copy of the identification requested.)
Some states will let you request the certificate on line and mail the requested information, but most won't. There is also a fee from $15.00 to $50.00, depending where you live. Try the official web site for the state you were born, then "Vital Records" or "Birth Certificate."
you can download it on websites that offer Vital records.
or you can go to your municipality.
You can get it from the Vital Records Office.
To get a Florida birth certificate (or a birth certificate in any other state, for that matter), the child had to have been born in Florida.
Putting a father's name on the birth certificate does not make him legally the father if you are not married to him. You can put his name on the birth certificate, but realize that it has no legal impact. In order to have paternity established, it has to be done with a court order.
