On my 94 530i auto, v8, you fill from the bottom side of the pan. There are 2 plugs, 1 drain, 1 fill. My trans. is the 5 hp 18(a5s 310z) 5 speed automatic, behind the 3.0 L. v8. The fill plug is in the corner of the pan furthest from the front of the car. Filling is similar to a manual trans. pull the plug and if nothing comes out fill till it does. At least that's how the parts dept. at the dealership explained it to me. I simply asked them to copy a page from there manuals on this procedure. My trans. only calls for dextron fluid, ($ inexpensive $) where as the other 2 trans. that were also used in those model years call for a lifetime oil that's about ($35 qt.) The trick is haveing the car level and still being able to fill it from underneath the car, lucky for me a friend owns a 2 post hoist that I put my car on. BMW say the trans. should be checked and filled at 30 degrees C. for proper fluid levels.
You can add transmission fluid, to your 1987 BMW through the transmission dipstick tube. Using a funnel will make adding the fluid much easier.

On the 1994 BMW 530i, the heater core is located under the dash in the engine compartment. You know the heater core is bad when it starts to leak.

dextron III
It is under the back seat, on the passenger side.
There is the transmission fluid stick under the hood near the block twords the back of the vehicle take out the stick and fill it up allow about 5 min to let it all drain down so when you dip it will not show all over your stick, run the vehicle and then check the fluid level with clean dip stick.
