Skunks are actually quite similar to foxes. They live in burrows and are quite solitary. They come out at night and tend to hunt for garbage as well as their more normal diet of small animals, eggs, some plants and berries.
Skunks live in woods, grasslands, and deserts. They make underground dens that they line with leaves. Sometimes they use dens that have been left by other animals. If skunks live near towns, they like to live under buildings or somewhere that they can be dry and safe.
Skunks live in North and South America. Skunks also live in dens and are nocturnal animals. Skunks are solitary and very rarely interact with other skunks.
The skunk can be found in most of the United States, Canada, Central America, and sometimes as far down as northern South America.
A skunk lives in forest borders, brushy areas, and grassy fields.
The two skunk species in the Mydaus genus inhabit Indonesia and the Philippines; all other skunks inhabit the Americas from Canada to central South America.
