.... not sure of the genesis of "guinea" ... but I'm told "wop" was derived from Immigration officials stamping W.O.P. on papers of arriving Italians, meaning With-Out-Passport
War came to Papua New Guinea because PNG stood in the way of Japanese domination over the south Pacific. The defence of Port Moresby was critical to victory in the south Pacific and to the defence of Australia. Had Port Moresby fallen, it would have left northern Australia more vulnerable to atta…ck. Singapore had already fallen, Rabaul (PNG) had already fallen, and the Japanese troops were getting much closer. Over the period of a year or more, Darwin and northern parts of Australia experienced periodic bombings from the Japanese. In May 1942, a Japanese invasion fleet departed Rabaul for Port Moresby, and the Battle of the Coral Sea began. It was a very real threat which was only turned back by the US aircraft leaving from carriers. After being turned back by the US, the Japanese then turned their attention to an attack over the Owen Stanley Range via the Kokoda Track, which linked the northern and southern coasts of Papua New Guinea. Thanks to the Papua New Guinean natives assisting the Australians and the US troops, the Japanese were turned back, having to retreat to bases at Buna, Gona and Sanananda, where they were eventually defeated. No. They originated in the area of Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru in South America. I think cos guinea pigs are related to pigs and they were sold in Peru for one guinea something like that
A Guinea is a coin of the old pre-decimal British currency. It was worth approximately 21 shillings.
They are called Guinea Pigs because they were sold in England for a Guinea, which is a coin used over in the United Kingdom.
They may be called guinea pigs because they weighed a guinea or because they were sold for one guinea. People may have also thought that they came from Guyana or Guinea. Another reason is that the first person to own or sell or discover them might have been named Guinea. well back in south america, …when guinea pigs were a delicacy, the south american's money was called the guinea. so when they sold guinea pigs to each other, the guinea pig was sold for a guinea. the 2nd half of their name is because of their piggish manner.. Lauryn24-I think they are called the guinea pigs because it makes somewhat similar sounds like that of a pig and is also almost built like a pig, a large head, a stout neck, a smaller body in relation to its head and neck and a tail of very little consequence. So it got is name from a skinny pig to a guinea pig. The etymology of guinea pig is unknown and confusing. Despite its name, guinea pigs are not from Guinea nor are in the pig family. They are native to the Andes Mountains in South America. They are believed to have been called pigs because their structure is similar to that of a pig's body. The guinea part of the name is even more confusing. There are three theories: one is that the guinea pigs were brought across the Atlantic Ocean to the island of Guinea then to Europe, another is that guinea was used because it is a word in the English language that means "far away land", and a third is that it was a variation of the word "Guiana", a region in South America (composed of Dutch Guiana [now Suriname], British Guiana [now Guyana], and French Guiana [still present]). Some people say that guinea pigs got the "guinea" part of their name because when sailors brought them from South America they sold them to people for a guinea as pets. A guinea is like a foreign dollar. They got the "pig" part of their name because the squeaking noise they make reminded them of baby piglets. . How the animals came to be thought of as "pigs" is not clear. They are built somewhat like pigs with large heads relative to their bodies, stout necks, and rounded rumps with no tail of any consequence; some of the sounds they emit are very similar to those made by pigs, and they also spend a large amount of time eating. T he guinea in guinea pig comes from the fact that guinea pigs were brought to Europe through New guinea , though in fact they originally came from present day Ecuador and Peru. (MORE)

Genitalia for guinea pigs are located very close to the rectal area. It sounds as though the guinea pig is a male, experiencing arousal. Many times, the pet will also drag itself along the ground/floor, releasing an odor to be detected by its female counterpart, for mating purposes.
During WWI,Papua New Guinea was occupied by Australian troops to defend the British half. When the Treaty of Versailles was established after World War I, Australia administered German New Guinea (the northern half), and the British part of the island came to be considered an External Territory of t…he Commonwealth of Australia, though it was still "owned" by Britain. At this point, the southern half came under Australian rule. The two territories were regarded as separate territories, known as 'Papua' and 'New Guinea'. After the New Guinea Campaign of World War II, the two territories came together as 'Papua New Guinea'. Australia still administered Papua New Guinea until the country was granted full independence on 16 September 1975. (MORE)

Before you get a guinea pig you need to have a good size enclosed cage, something for it to hide under like a box (in the cage), chaff, water fresh fruit and veg (look on internet most are deadly for them) and fresh dry hay in it's enclosure. You can find other sorts of bedding at a pet shop. It is …important to clean the cage regually because if it is not dry they will get sick. They also should go out side for most of the day so they eat fresh grass and have access to sunlight. It is also VERY important to worm your guinea pigs or they will die. (i no from experience) you can buy wormer liquid from a pet shop, it isn't expensive. :) (MORE)

It all depends on the guinea pigs behavior and who the person is. A well socialized guinea pig is more likely to come to it's owner while a shy and under socialized guinea pig would be less likely to come.
