The jet stream goes from west to east in the northern hemisphere. It goes from east to west in the Southern Hemisphere. the usa get weather from the south due to the southn weather driftting into the northern hemisphere

In the US, it generally travels from west to EAST. It can have vary a lot and can dip towards South and abruptly back to the North at times. The Jet Streams also account for the reason that travelling from West to East "seems quicker" than going East to West. The time zone changes also is a factor.
