The word disco comes from the word discothèque. In the occupied France underground hidden dance clubs called discothèque originated as the Nazis banned black American artists from performing Jazz music in clubs. Instead of live bands or singers performing, recorded music was played in these underground clubs. Subsequently a type a music evolved from these clubs which was referred to as Disco Music. The word disco is short for discothèque.
