All societies everywhere, believe their rituals affect and can influence their gods. Many, today, believe prayers to theirs will make a difference. Hel-lo!?!? The Greeks thought that there were gods and goddesses that all had their own "stuff" for lack of a better term. i.e. Zeus had the sky. Athena had wisdom, battle strategy, war, etc.
