From the various hints in the Scripture, a Census, Herod, Shepherds in the field with their flocks still, some scholars have narrowed the timeline to mid-September to mid-October 5-4 BC, which is the usual time for the Feast of Tabernacles where people go to live out of their households and the Feast of Trumpets which may be the announcing of Jesus' 2nd Coming at the 7th Trumpet blast.
