Where is the gas tank button to open the tank on a 1986 Pontiac fiero?

The gas tank opener for the 86 Fiero, is located on the "B" pillar,located behind and to the left of the drivers seat approximately 3 inches back from the door opening, and four inches down from the roof. It is a pull down hook.

my uncles 84 fiero only opens with keys. My Fiero has a button on the top right of the gauge cluster that will open the trunk. It has to have a battery or the engine running to do so though.

It is manual, there is no trunk button whatsoever on the inside of the car, you need the key to get in. The lock on ours was broken, so we had to drill through the destroyed lock to open it :D

Your IAC valve next to the throttle body is likely stuck open. Remove it with a 1"1/4" socket, clean it and let it sit overnight, and then reinstall it. If it continues to stick open, it is defective and you will need to purchase a new one. The IAC, when it is stuck in the open position, causes the 2.8L Fiero V6 to feel like it has a sluggish idle. You should also be seeing problems periodically when you start it, such as the idle jumping up when it first runs, and then dropping below 1k RPMS.

The lock has a clip on the inside, pull the clip off and the lock will come out, remove the lock rod and then you can use a screwdriver to open the lock.

Open your hood. Its in the middle between the AC aluminum thing and the brake booster. Simple one wire harness, these things are cake, 50 times easier on the fiero cause you dont have to sit on your head. Make sure its not the blower resistor first.
