The rectum is the exit for fecal matter, (poo) and has two muscular sphincters. One automatic and one voluntary. If your friends tend to snicker about this, you should remind them that there are MORE than 50 sphincters in the human body and one of them is the mouth. :)
Here are the digestive sphincters, or sphincters of the alimentary canal as I learned in my Anatomy and Physiology class:
1. Upper esophageal Sphincter- separates pharynx and esophagus
2. Gastroesophageal Spincter- separates esophagus and stomach
3. Pyloric Valve- Separates stomach from duodenum
4. Ileocecal Valve- Separates Small intestine from larges intestine
5. Anal Spincters (2- Voluntary and Involuntary)- Defecation control
Hope this helps! :D I just looked this up myself for an exam :)
The Rectal Sphincter/Anal Sphincter is an approximate 1 inch ring shaped muscle that surrounds the external opening of the rectum. This muscle maintains the natural function of the anal orifice/anal canal by constriction. This constriction relaxes as needed allowing for the body's normal physiological function.
There are actually two sphincters at the anus, which effects and controls normal function; one is the internal anal sphincter, and the second is the external anal sphincter (rectal sphincter). These two muscles help regulate bowel function and movement; both are needed in order for the bowel to function normally and healthily.
The internal anal sphincter is a smooth muscle in the lower part of the bowel, which keeps the anal canal closed until stool is ready to be passed; the external anal sphincter voluntarily contracts to prevent leakage, it acts much like a valve. This is the muscle that is referred to as the rectal sphincter, but without the two muscles working together, the bowel cannot function normally. Damage or disease to either of these sphincters can cause mild to serious problems, spotting or leaking fecal matter or full fecal incontinence.
There are more than fifty (50) different sphincter muscles in the human body.
In the eye, heart, throat, both large and small intestines and rectum are just a few better know sphincter muscles.
the rectum is located in the digestive system under the intestines.
There are 2 anal sphincters; one at the outlet and the other slightly inside the body.
The rectum is found in the digestive system.
The rectum is to be found in the lower part of the abdominal cavity.
muscles
The rectum is part of the digestive system.
The epithelial tissues are found inside the mouth, in the esophagus, and in the rectum.
Rectum *Found in the Digestive System.
mostly E coli will be found in the intestine and rectum

the rectum is attractive
The large intestine does connect to the rectum.
Growths, tears, anal fissures, or congenital structural defects can be found inside the rectum with DRE
The rectum.the rectum or the decending colon.
