Be standing under a door frame. No matter what, do NOT be under a table. When the roof falls, it will crush you to the bone.

Now, you should always hide NEXT to the table or under a door frame. Next to the table is safe because, say the roof falls, and your next to the table. the table will collapse from all the pressure, but the table will become diagonal. This space between the table and the floor is called the Triangle of Life. So, next to a table or standing under a door frame is safest. I'd say laying next to a table is safest, just because your body is more vulnerable under a door frame.

If you are in a house, go into the bathroom because the pipes surrounding it are more likely to survive it because they are metal.

If you are outside during an earthquake run I mean run at light speed from anything that might fall such as a building. If are unable to run away take cover under a sturdy object.

Try to get into an open external space where nothing can fall on you. Failing this take cover in a door frame or under a sturdy table.
