The starter is on the passinger side rear, under the Thing and is attached to the transaxle. The starter solenoid might not be moving then you try to start the Thing. The solenoid moves forward and engages(turns) the flywheel thus turning over the engine. Remove the starter and have it checked.
It could be a bad battery.
is it in park or neutral if not then will not start....is battery fully charged sometimes new batteries need charging before use....try the ignition relay sometimes they go on the blink....if battery is charged....remove ecu fuse for one minute and put back....this resets your whole setup
Then your battery is still not charged. The clicking sound is the solenoid that has a little gear on it that engages with the ring gear of the engine to spin it. There is a certain amount of voltage needed to push that solenoid into the ring gear and your battery isn't putting out enough. You'll need a jump to get started and then need to consider the battery.
Check the starter.
first make sure that you have a fully charged battery. if you do and turn the ignition on and do not get even a clicking sound see if the starter is good it could also be the ignition switch.so check that and all your fuses. also make sure that all your ingnition wires are seeted properly.
change the battery every time I've had that it's been the battery the likely problem is not the battery but the solenoid that is attached to the starter motor
When the battery icon in the top right hand corner has turned red or the itouch has switched itself off
If it does not start and just makes a clicking sound, this is an indication of: a low battery, poor battery connections, or a defective starter solenoid ( next to the battery hooked up by the short positive battery cable). Check and clean your battery cables first , then look to the solenoid if you know the battery is fully charged. I hope this helps you. Mark
The clicking can signify a weak or dead battery. Make sure the battery is fully charged to start the engine.
bad solenoid...will usually click up a storm when you turn on the ignition.
Is the battery fully charged? Try jump-starting it.
could be bad cells in the battery, but my bmw ended up having a seized motor, starter was engaging and clicking because it couldnt turn the engine. try putting a socket on the engine crank pulley to see if engine will rotate
