Matthew abbreviated the list by omitting three kings of Judah who were the offspring of King Jehoram and murderous Queen Athaliah.

Further examination shows that Matthew listed Jeconiahs twice; at last place of David to "carried away to Babylon" then again at first place from "carried away to Babylon" to Jesus. Matthews 1:11-12.
Matthew was probably attempting to list the genealogy in multiples of number 7, which is magical to the Jews. MT 1:17 reads; "So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations (7x2); and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
