Transparent materials allow light to freely pass through them. Translucent materials also allow light to pass through them, but change the colour of the light.
Glass is the best example for transparent material.

It's all about the light, light reflection and color of what is in front of the transparent materials. Opaque objects are used in cameras to make a clearer object through the camera therefore it makes a nicer image.
