The first dirigible balloon flew in 1852. Frenchman Jules Henri Giffard made the first powered and controlled flight (with passengers) 24 September 1852. He flew 27 miles from Paris to Trappe. He made a round trip because the winds were too strong for his airship to land.
The dirgible was powered by a 2,200 watts (3 horsepower) steam engine.
Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin first started designing his dirigible ideas in 1874; and he eventually patented the idea in 1895. The first large scale dirigible was built in 1899.
Blimp is a non-rigid airship or a dirigible. The origin of the name blimp is not known but, it is believed to come from the British Class B Airship, B plus limp (non-rigid), created the word blimp.Airship, dirigible or Zeppelin.
The dirigible crashed due to inclement weather.
Definitely a dirigible because a hot air balloon cannot be steered because the wind carries it. A dirigible is an air ship and has control systems.
