Pitbulls are (absolute mongrels)

Hogwash! That is an answer borne out of pure uninformedprejudice

In some localities, the pitbull is the breed involved in most dog bites, however, according to throughout the U.S., mixed breeds are involved in most bites, and that the two pure breeds most often involved are:

German Shepherd and Chow.

Gee wonder why the most-owned dog in the U.S. would be the most-involved breed in dog bites.

Also, children are involved in more dog bites than adults. Hmm, an unknown creature runs up and starts squealing and hitting me, I'm hitting back too!

In fact, the Pit bull is one of the most loving and fanatically loyal breeds in existence. The history of the breed, and the continued use/abuse of the dogs for that purpose are what further their bad reputation.some good references on pit bulls.

Also, to further the argument of mixed breed attacks, "mongrel" means a dog of mixed breed. Strike two!

All dogs can bite. They usually only do it if they are scared or protecting themselves/others. As long as you train your dog properly and are as loving as you can be, then your dog shouldn't bite. BUT if the dog feels threatened, even by you, it will bite to protect him/herself.

There is not a breed of dog that is known for being a biting breed. Although there are several breeds that are know to be aggressive such as Dobermans, Pit Bulls, and Rottweiler's. This is at debate not a proven fact. What is proven is a matter of statistics. Pit bulls (and pit bull mixes) have overwhelmingly caused the most fatalities in the last few years.

If it is your own dog there is likely no reason you should not pick up the dog. If it is a strangers dog it is not a good idea. Some dogs do not like to be picked up and will bite if you try to pick them up. This is more likely to happen if it is a dog that doesn't know you.
