Silk is well known for being warmer than wool. Nylon and cotton are poorer insulators. (As well, there are other types of "wool" which are known for being much warmer than sheep's wool...)
Different fabrics react best to different temperatures of heat. Cotton material is best handled at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The material will quickly smooth out without the worry of anything being burned.
Cotton is the best material
Cotton And Wool
Dry cotton holds air still. Dead air space (not moving) is the best natural insulator.
Trapped air is the best, like a thermal flask. Water is pretty good, as well as fabrics in some clothes.
Nylon
jute wool
Cotton is not a fabric but a material. Fabrics made from cotton include denim, jersey, broadcloth, and canvas. While cotton may be the best fabric in some situations, it may be the worst in others. While cotton canvas used to be the best fabric for tents, now Goretex and other fabrics have long replaced it. Conversely, while canvas may have been be the bese fabric for tents, certainly tulle and chiffon would have been the worst fabrics for tents. An ecological advantage for cotton is that it is a natural material as opposed to synthetic materials such as nylon and polyester.
The best type of fabric for running shorts is dri-max. This fabric wicks the wetness away and keeps your skin drier than normal fabrics such as cotton or nylon. Cotton clothing gets very wet and nylon chafes your skin.
wool!
Cotton(:
Wool is the best insulator.because wool retains air between the fibres
Nylon is not the best material for a bath towel. I believe cotton bath towels are much better.
Stick with cotton or cotton-blends in the summer since cotton is a natural fiber that 'breathes' or ventilates. Linen is another lightweight choice. Of course, light colors are best. Stay away from synthetics like nylon and polyester, unless you want to try one of the new dri-fit fabrics like athletes wear.
A 1260 American made Ballistic Nylon is the best you can get at this time but they are coming up with new fabrics all the time. A 2520 Foreign made ballistic nylon is not a bad choice either.
Yes, it matters. 100% cotton thread will shrink when laundered and thereby pucker the seams of the synthetic jersey garment. When sewing synthetic fabrics it is best to use synthetic or cotton/synthetic blend thread.
Poly Cotton is the best durable mix, 65% Polyester 35% Cotton, (Polycotton) standard everyday fabric
