Coca-Cola was invented by a pharmacist by the name of John Stith Pemberton in 1886. It is said to have had cocaine hidden in a "cola" flavored liquor. Of course eventually the medicinal drug was removed upon more wide spread popularity and eventually became the beverage we know today.
Pepsi on the other hand was made almost at the same time, but just a few years or so later. The drink was first made in the 1890s by a pharmacist by the name of Caleb Bradham in North Carolina.
