In eukaryotic cells, the nucleus is the largeset organelle and is even visible under a light microscope in some cells (for example, plant cells). The nucleus contains the genetic information for the synthesis of proteins and is needed for cells the function. In prokaryotic cells, there are no organelles because prokaryotes lack membrane bound organelles-- an important difference between eukaryotes and prokaryotes.

  • Nucleolus- dark-staining zone where intensive synthesis of ribosomal RNA is taking place
  • The nuclear envelope
    • Nuclear envelope- two phospholipid bilayer membranes
      • Outer membrane continuous with endoplasmic reticulum
    • Nuclear pores- scattered over surface are shallow depressions where two membrane layers pinch together
      • Cytoplasmic face, nuclear face, central ring embedded in membrane
      • Proteins that make up are arranged radially with large central hole
      • Allows small molecules to diffuse between nucleoplasm and cytoplasm
      • Restricted to
        • Proteins moving into the nucleus to be incorporated into nulcear structures or to catalyze nuclear activities
        • RNA and RNA-protein complexes formed in nucleus and exported to cytoplasm
    • Inner surface of envelope covered with fibers that make up nuclear lamina= nuclear lamins
      • Give nucleus its shape and involved in deconstruction and reconstruction of envelope

What in the largest organelle in cells?

The largest organelle in a plant cell is called the Central Vacuole. Although this is also found in an animal cell, the organelle is much larger in a plant cell.

What structure of an animal cell has the largest volume?

In most cases the nucleus is the organelle that takes up the most volume in an animal cell. In the nuclei is where DNA of an animal can be found. This makes the nucleus the most important organelle as well.

Nucleus but it depends on the cell. Animal: nucleus Plant: vacuoles

What is the largest organelle in a cell?

The largest organelle in your body is the Nucleus. However, this is only in an animal cell, as the large central vacuole present in plant cells is larger than the nucleus and takes up much of the space available in a plant cell.

Is nucleus a part of cell organelle?

I is not a part of a cell organelle because it is the largest organelle responsible for reproduction& metabolic activities of the cell
