∙ 13y agoMost things that are digital and are designed to have user input must have an os, or operating system. In the days of land line calling, only hard buttons were needed to reach someone. But with the complexity of modern phones, even simple, cheap phones need to have an operating system. Look at the iPhone for example. The OS, or operating system, runs the whole phone and controls the volume, apps, battery, memory, and just about every other facet of the iPhone. Even the Razor, a flip phone, has a simple and crude operating system to work the phone, take pictures, and hold the address book. Without operating systems, phones could only call, and that's it. In today's world, even some land line phones have an operating system that stores messages and leaves call back numbers
