Mass, temperature, speed, distance and charge are scalar or real quantities. There are a lot more scalars. The Universe is made up of quaternions which consist of a real or scalar and three vectors; q= r + ix +jy + kz= r + v. Scalar is another word for real in mathematics and physics. Energy and force and electric fields have real and vector parts there is real energy and vector energy; there are real forces and vector forces, there are real magnetic fields and vector magnetic fields.

Scalar quantities have no direction, just magnitude. So they do not have any specific term to represent them. They are represented by their symbol.

Is space a vector or scalars?

Measurable quantities are vectors or scalars. "Space" is not a measurable quantity. "Volume" is. It's a scalar.

Type of quantity?

there are two types of quantities - Scalars and vectors. Scalars are quantities which intrinsically have the property of magnitude only. Vectors are quantities which intrinsically have both the properties of magnitude and direction.

How do you use scalar in a sentence?

scalars are quantities that are completely describe by their magnitude only

What are Scalar and vector values?

scalars are those quantities which have magnitude as well as unit.and vector are those quantities which has magnitude, unit as well as direction.

Can Vectors be added together scalar quantities cannot?

Vectors can be added to other vectors in the same vector space. Scalars can be added to other scalars if they have the same units. Scalars cannot be added to vectors, nor vice versa, directly.

Is duration of a flight a scalar or vector?

Scalars are quantities that are fully described by magnitude aloneVectors are quantities that are fully described by both magnitude and a direction.Duration of a flight is simply a magnitude and there is no direction so it is a scalar.

Can a scalar quantity have a zero magnitude?

All scalar quantities have magnitudes; what scalars don't have is direction. The magnitudes can take any value, +ve or -ve (or zero).

Is velocity scalars or vectors?

It is a vector since it has both a magnitude and a direction. Scalar quantities only have a magnitude.

What is the two types of physical quantities?

Generally there are two types of physical quantities. One without direction known as scalars other with direction known as vectors. While there are other physical quantities as well that cannot be classified under the two above mentioned categories, they are tensors, matrices, spinors and quaternions.

What is the difference between a scalar quantity and a vector?

Scalars are quantities that have magnitude only; they are independent of direction. Vectors have both magnitude and direction. vectors need bold letters to show them.
