The East River, which is actually not a river, but an estuary, or a tidal strait. Unlike a true river, it connects to the ocean on both sides. It flows south from the Long Island Sound, down past the east side of Manhattan and the west side of Queens and Brooklyn, and into the Atlantic Ocean.

Both the Brooklyn and the Manhattan Bridge connect the borough of Brooklyn to the borough of Manhattan. Both bridges span the East River, which is actually not a river, but an estuary, or a tidal strait. Unlike a true river, it connects to the ocean on both sides. It flows south from the Long Island Sound, down the east side of Manhattan and the west side of Queens and Brooklyn, and into the Atlantic Ocean.

The river that separates Manhattan from the Bronx is called the Harlem River. However, the Harlem River is not a true river, but a tidal strait that branches off of the Hudson River. The Hudson River flows down the west side of Manhattan. The Harlem River branches off from the Hudson River and flows southeast, down over the top of Manhattan, and into the East River (which flows down the east side of Manhattan).

The East River is also not a true river, but a tidal strait. It connects to the ocean on both sides. It flows south from the Long Island Sound, down the east side of Manhattan and the west side of Queens and Brooklyn, and into the Atlantic Ocean.

I have included a link to a NYC subway map that shows you all of the five boroughs, except Staten Island. You can see the tip of Staten Island on the bottom left corner of the map, but the entire island is not shown, since the subway doesn't go there. The Hudson River, Harlem River, and East River are all labeled.

I think you may have accidentally written the question wrong.

Manhattan is separated from Brooklyn and Queens by the East River, which is not a true river (and is NOT "an arm of the Hudson"), but an estuary or tidal strait. The East River connects to the ocean on both sides. It flows south from the bay known as the Long Island Sound, down the east side of Manhattan and the west side of Brooklyn and Queens, and into the Atlantic Ocean at Lower Manhattan.

The Bronx is separated from Brooklyn and Queens by the Long Island Sound.

Manhattan is separated from the Bronx by the Harlem River, which IS an "arm of the Hudson." It branches off of the Hudson River, flows down the top of Manhattan and the bottom of the Bronx, and into the East River.

See the Related Link below for a New York City subway map. The Hudson, Harlem, and East Rivers, as well as the Long Island Sound, are clearly labeled.

Are Manhattan and The Brooklyn Bridge two different islands?

The Brooklyn Bridge is not an island. As the name suggests, The Brooklyn Bridge is a bridge. New York City is made up of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. Manhattan is an island. Brooklyn, along with Queens, is part of the island known as Long Island. Brooklyn and Queens take up the western end of Long Island. The Brooklyn Bridge connects the borough of Brooklyn to the borough of Manhattan. It transverses the East River at Lower Manhattan on the Manhattan side, and somewhere between the Brooklyn Heights and Vinegar Hill neighborhoods on the Brooklyn side.

What river is west of Queens New York?

The East River (and technically also the Hudson River). The island of Long Island (the west side of which contains the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn) is bordered on the west side by the East River, which is not a true river, but an estuary, or tidal strait. Unlike a true river, it connects to the ocean on both sides. It flows south from the bay known as the Long Island Sound, down the east side of Manhattan and the west side of Queens and Brooklyn, and into the Atlantic Ocean. So, there is Long Island. The west side of Long Island contains the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn. The East River flows down the west side of Queens/Brooklyn (which is the East Side of Manhattan). And on the other side of Manhattan is the Hudson River. So, from west to east, it goes: Hudson River ---> Manhattan ---> East River ---> Queens/Brooklyn ---> the rest of Long Island. Thus, while the East River is the one that borders Queens/Brooklyn on the west side, the Hudson River is technically also west of Queens/Brooklyn. See the Related Link below for a complete New York City subway map, which shows you the rivers and all the five boroughs. Note that Staten Island (one of the five boroughs) is only visible at the very bottom left corner of the map. That is because the subway doesn't go there.
