John Jeffries was one of the balloonists that crossed the English Channel in 1785. He was accompanied by Francois Blanchard.The interesting thing about Jefrries was that he was making this balloon voyage as a member of the Royal Society. He had been an American colonist, but left Boston at the beginning of the American Revolution. Later he served as a surgeon for British troops in Halifax.
