Leaps years are when there is an extra day in February. Why does this happen? It is because ... The Earth spins on it's axis of 23.5degrees. And one total spin is one day. In addition, Earth is spinning on it's axis while it's orbiting around the Sun. One complete orbit around the Sun is called a year. However, every year, there is actually 365.25 days. But we shorten it to 365 days a year. But in a leap year, there is 366 days. Can you guess why? It is because the quarter of a day left from the previous years adds up to one whole day. And this day occurs every four years. That day is February, the 29th. Consequently, a person who is born on February the 29th (which is the extra day in a leap year) is very unlucky. Why? Well, simply because his or her birthday occurs every four years.

All years that are divisible by 4 are leap years. There is one exception; years that are divisible by 100 are not leap years, unless they are divisible by 400. For example, 1800 and 1900 were not leap years, but 2000 was.

To determine if a year in the Gregorian calendar is a leap year, divide it by 4. Years that are not evenly divisible by 4, like 2015 and 2017, are not leap years. However, not all years that are evenly divisible by 4 are leap years. If a year is evenly divisible by 100, it is a leap year only if it is also evenly divisible by 400. So 1900 and 2100 are not leap years because they are evenly divisible by 100 but not evenly divisible by 400, and 2000 and 2400 are leap years because they are evenly divisible by 400.

Future leap years?

Leap Years are years divisible by four, with two exceptions. 1. "Century" year numbers (divisible evenly by 100) are not leap years. 2. Years divisible evenly by 400 ARE leap years. So years like 1992 and 1996 were leap years. Century years like 1900 or 2100 are NOT leap years. But 2000 was a leap year, and 2400 will be.

Why arnt there leap days in years ending in double zeros?

There can be. Years divisible by 100, but not by 400 are not leap years. So 1900 was not a leap year and 2100 will not be a leap year. The year 2000 was a leap year, because it was divisible by 400. So some double zero years can be a leap year. The next will be 2400.

How many days are there in 7 years?

There are 3 different answers because of the leap years. this is 7 years with 2 leap years: If the beginning year is a leap year, when the leap year is next year, or the leap year is two years after the beginning year, there will be two leap years in the seven year period, and so the number of days will be 2557. If the beginning year isn't in any of the above catergories, there will only be 2556 days, because of only one leap year. If the beginning year is 3 years before a year that is a multiple of 100, but not a multiple of 400, there will be no leap years. For example, the 7 year period beginning in 2097 has no leap years because 2100 is not a leap year. In that case there will be 365 * 7 = 2555 days.
