If any men in WW1 were sent a white feather, normally and if not always by a woman, it was a sign of cowardice. It meant he wasn't signing up to fight, and the woman thought that he should.

Thats correct, many women, especially in England were very keen on going out and looking for men in the streets that didnt have a uniform on, and would kick off and insist the man accept it not even caring what his circumstances were.

They weer treated badly for letting the soldiers down in the world war 1 Some were unfit to fight in WW1 and they took jobs with the police, ambulance, fire brigades, munition factory's or carry on with their jobs from before the war, but women were encouraged in Britain to give out a white feather to the men who didnt or couldn't join, the white feather meant that the man was a coward, and the women gave them out very liberally no matter what the mans circumstances were.
