The culprits were Islamic terrorists, mostly Egyptian, who flew two large passenger aircraft into the Twin Towers of the New York World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. They were part of an effort to deter US and world opposition to their social and political agenda. The hijackers committed suicide and killed over 3000 people from many countries who worked in the towers, as well as the innocent passengers on four planes. They were trained and funded by groups linked to the group Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden.
There are, however, conspiracy theories suggesting that George Bush, the CIA, or the Department of Defense were somehow involved, and it is likely that these will continue, with or without tangible proof.

∙ 10y agoFanatics paid and inspired by their leaders killed themselves and thousands of others by crashing passenger planes into the World Trade Center towers in New York, on September 11, 2001. All of the hijackers died in the attacks.
Some held responsible, including Osama bin Laden (leader of Al Qaeda), were later tracked down and killed in retaliation. Some of the ringleaders have been detained, convicted, or imprisoned.
