∙ 9y agoThe design was the work of Eleanor Lovelace (wife of Lieut. Col. Alec Lovelace, C.M.G., M.B.E, M.C in post as British Administrator 1960-1964 ,now deceased). The Coat of Arms was accepted with an agreed small change, which was the inclusion of a piece of land under the coconut tree to indicate an island.
She was an art teacher before leaving Great Britain after the second world war for the West Indies for another teaching post in Mauritius, where she met Alec Lovelace and married him before he took up post first in Antigua and then in Dominica. She is now 98 yrs old (2014) and living in the south east of England.
