No one discovered microwave ovens. They were first used in 1837 or so when a high school dropout discovered that microwaves emitted heat (or something). He noticed this as he reached into his pocket for his chocolate bar, only to find it had melted. He had been working in a lab full of microwaves (the radiation type, not the oven). The next time, he brought an egg and some popcorn. The egg exploded, having being cooked from the inside. Later, popcorn was popping everywhere. That was the discovery of microwaves being a potential cheaper use of ovens.
Sorry, but that answer is totally i correct. People didn't know how to harness electricity in 1837... it was 1945, and the person whose chocolate bar melted was Percy Spencer of Raytheon (who only went to grammar school). He realized that microwaves heated the chocolate, then tried popcorn. Heat applied for a patent for heating food. After that, he and others at Raytheon worked at designing an oven that could be used for cooking. The result was something that looked like a 5 foot high refrigerator and weighed 600 - 700 pounds. It was in the 1960's that the first table top units were produced.
Like many of today's great inventions, the microwave oven was a by-product of another technology. It was during a radar-related research project around 1946 that Dr. Percy Spencer, a self-taught engineer with the Raytheon Corporation, noticed something very unusual. He was testing a new vacuum tube called a magnetron (we are searching for a picture of an actual 1946 magnetron), when he discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted. This intrigued Dr. Spencer, so he tried another experiment. This time he placed some popcorn kernels near the tube and, perhaps standing a little farther away, he watched with an inventive sparkle in his eye as the popcorn sputtered, cracked and popped all over his lab.
The next morning, Scientist Spencer decided to put the magnetron tube near an egg. Spencer was joined by a curious colleague, and they both watched as the egg began to tremor and quake. The rapid temperature rise within the egg was causing tremendous internal pressure. Evidently the curious colleague moved in for a closer look just as the egg exploded and splattered hot yolk all over his amazed face. The face of Spencer lit up with a logical scientific conclusion: the melted candy bar, the popcorn, and now the exploding egg, were all attributable to exposure to low-density microwave energy. Thus, if an egg can be cooked that quickly, why not other foods? Experimentation began...
Dr. Spencer fashioned a metal box with an opening into which he fed microwave power. The energy entering the box was unable to escape, thereby creating a higher density electromagnetic field. When food was placed in the box and microwave energy fed in, the temperature of the food rose very rapidly. Dr. Spencer had invented what was to revolutionize cooking, and form the basis of a multimillion dollar industry, the microwave oven
It was made by Dr. Lebron Percy Spencer in 1964
The microwave oven was invented by Percy Spencer. The microwave was first called a Radarange before the name was changed.

Microwave Ovens
No, microwave ovens are extremely popular in Japan.
Yes, microwave ovens use electromagnetic radiation.
Some features of cheap microwave ovens are that they can cook things at very high temperatures and some newer microwave ovens even have a convection feaure on them.
No.
No, microwave ovens don't have a standard length. They come in different sizes.
There are no radioactive materials in microwave ovens: they use microwaves to cook food and heat liquids.

Same as today, with ovens and stoves. The exception being microwave ovens which were invented later. Note: the electric stove was first introduced in 1893. The microwave oven in 1947.
