The depiction of Santa in red and white was first created by Thomas Nast. He was a cartoonist who created the image for "Harpers Weekly" in the USA in 1863. Historically, Coca-Cola was not the first soft drink company to use the modern image of Santa Claus in its advertising - White Rock Beverages actually used Santa to sell their mineral watern 1915 and then in advertisements in 1923 for its Ginger Ale. Coca Cola then used the depiction in 1930.
