The Vikings arrived in North America 500 years before any European came on the mainland of North America. They set up colonies in Newfoundland and Greenland. In 1513 Balboa leads a party across the Isthmus of Panama and became the first European to see the Pacific Ocean. Cortes marched into Mexico in 1519 with 600 men and found the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan' of 150,000 people. By 1531 Pizarro is leading a group into the Inca empire.
