  1. Bicycle means, it should have wheels and a bicycle is nothing without a wheel. It is hotly debated but historians generally agree it originated in Mesopotamia in around 3,500 BC.

  2. First bike saying from Chinese, year 500 BC, inventor/developer Lu Ban and his findings are yet to be verified.

  3. For some time now there has been a debate that Giacomo Caprotti (a student of Leonardo da vinci) might have made a sketch of a bicycle-like device back in 1534. The authenticity of this evidence has been suggested as a fake by many prominent historians but yet others attest to its validity.

  4. The Celerifere was an early proto-bike, year 1790, inventor/developer Comte Mede de Sivrac. It was said to have lacked any steering, had no pedals but did ostensibly resemble the technology that would later become known as the bicycle. The Celerifere, according to stories, had four wheels (though some have suggested just two) and a seat and was powered by the rider using their feet to walk or run to push off and then glide for a short distance.

  5. The Laufmaschine (Draisienne) comes to the rescue, sort of. Year: 1817, Barn Karl von Drais. The Laufmaschine (Draisienne in French), aka the "Running Machine" or "Hobby Horse", was invented by Baron Karl Von Drais - a German inventor. Although it might be unrecognizable as a bicycle when compared to modern examples, it did consist of a frame with two wheels. The "Running Machine" was propelled by the operator effectively walking whilst seated. This allowed for a sort of 'gliding' walking or running experience. The front wheel assembly also had a handlebar that was hinged to allow for a small amount of steering. Several manufacturers in France and England made their own versions during its brief popularity in the summer of 1819.

  6. The first mechanically propelled bikes might have been Scottish, Year: 1839/1869, Inventor/Developer: Kirkpatrick MacMillan/Thomas McCall.

Vehicles for human transport that have two wheels and require balancing by the rider date back to the early 19th century. The first means of transport making use of two wheels arranged consecutively, and thus the archetype of the bicycle was the German draisine dating back to 1817. The term bicycle was coined in France in the 1860s, and the descriptive title "penny farthing", used to describe an "Ordinary Bicycle", is a 19th-century term.

Conclusion is that it is not specific and bold to determine the accurate answer who invented Bicycle. For related and other bicycle-related informative articles you can get from here: bestcitybikes(dot)com/category/blog/

As for many inventions, many people were involved.

Baron Von Drais invented a bicycle in 1817 in Germany. It was made of wood and had a steerable front wheel. It had no pedals so the inventor used his feet to push himself along.

The first mechanically driven bicycle was made by Kirkpatrick MacMillan, a Scottish blacksmith, in 1839. It was driven by treadles (rather like an old sewing machine) or steps which moved up and down. By pressing down on these the back wheel was turned. Later bicycles had pedals attached to it.Ernest Michaux developed the modern bicycle pedal and cranks in 1861 on the front axle. John Kemp Starley the inventor who built the bicycle we use today.

James Starley is the father of the industry of the bicycle. There are several people credited with the invention of the bicycle including Kirkpatrick Macmillan and Pierre Michaux.
American, Sylvester Howard Roper (1823-1896) invented a two-cylinder, steam-engine motorcycle (powered by coal) in 1867.
The first vehicle that was invented that can be considered "bike like" is the "draisines" invented by Karl Drais in 1817. It had two wheels and a steering handlebar, but no pedals. It essentially worked like a scooter where someone would run while straddling the machine and then allow it to coast the rest of the way.

The pedal crank wasn't added to what we now know as the bicycle, then called the "velocipede", until the 1860's in France. These bicycles were direct drive though.

The "safety bicycle", from 1876 and invented by British engineer Harry John Lawson, is the antique bicycle most like what we ride today, but a treadle (a treaded belt) drove the rear wheel as opposed to a chain.

Bicycles as we know them today, with a crank driven chain drive, weren't introduced until 1879, but they weren't commercially successful until John Kemp Starley, also British, came out with his "Rover" bicycle. Because of the commercial success of the Rover and the "bike boom" that soon followed, Starley is often credited as the inventor of the modern-day bicycle.
The early model that the rider had to propel forward by a 'walking' motion of his legs was called the Draisienne. It was built by the German Karl von Drais. The first 'modern' bycicle with a crank and pedals was built by Frenchmen Pierre Michaud and Pierre Lallement.

Early bicycles were called hobby-horses, velocopedes and bone-shakers.

The first rear-chain-drive bicycle chain was invented by Henry Lawson in 1879.

John Dunlop's invention of the pneumatic tire in 1888 made the ride much softer and easier for everyone.
