WikiAnswers WikiAnswers is a cooperatively grown database of questions and answers from visitors like you. It is one way that Answers.com brings you answers about anything. … WikiAnswers is a platform that facilitates the answering of questions as well as allowing anyone to sign up and answer the questions of others. If you show exceptional skill, you might be recommended to be a supervisor, which allows you to have extra functionality for keeping the site organized. Answers.com's WikiAnswers is your question and answer site. WikiAnswers represents a Community effort to provide a knowledge database and a forum for asking and answering questions across a broad range of topics. The answers to the questions asked could quite possibly be searched and recovered from the web and from other sources, but the WikiAnswers idea is to create a "homegrown" locus where specific information can be searched and supplied in a "quick and easy" format. An underlying idea behind the Wiki is that the Community mind more effective at problem solving and providing answers than the individual mind; we can do more and do it better as a group than an individual or even a group of individuals can acting independently. No one person knows as much as all of us put together. Another concept worth considering is that there are a number of "resident experts" here with decades of specific experience. The hints and kinks of, say, car repairs or of residential electrical troubleshooting can be illuminated by someone of that stripe. And, believe it or not, they're here. People from all walks of life who have been "up close and personal" with, say, a relationship issue or a household cleaning problem share what they've learned. You can't buy that anywhere. And it's free here! If this prompts you to use WikiAnswers, great. If it inspires you to become a Contributor here, then even better! We can honestly use the help of all Contributors (those vandals who wish to trash the Boards aside). Each of us has knowledge, skill and experience that will allow the answering or improvement of replies to the many questions in the WikiAnswers data base. And we have specific areas (Categories) where each of us has a professional or personal interest. Hobbies and pastimes are well represented. There is a lot of homework help here, too. If you're still seeking answers, you're in the right place. Look through the postings to the underlying ideas and know that WikiAnswers is here for you , personally. It is for you that the Boards exist. They await your question. They provide space for your knowledge and experience. They connect people with information; connect you to others of a like mind. The door is open, open to you. Why not drop in?
Milestones in the Creation of WikiAnswers FAQ Farm was started in 2002 by Chris Whitten (a pioneer in the Q&A arena). In 2004 we made a major change when we adopted "wiki"… (comes from the Hawaiian language, and means "quick" in English) software to use for our Q&A farming. In November 2006, we became part of Answers.com. And in January 2007, we started using WikiAnswers as our official name.

The WikiAnswers SPAs WikiAnswers has a group of volunteers known as "Special Project Assistants" (SPAs). According to the Help Center of WikiAnswers, the SPAs "perform tasks… such as seeding new questions, recategorizing Q&As, cleaning up vandalism and spam and other critical daily activities that lend to a better overall user experience for all members of our community. They believe in giving for the greater good and are recognized by Supervisors for their time and effort." When a user decides to become an SPA, they are given tasks in areas that hopefully interest them. The tasks are all submitted by Supervisors, so by completing them, the SPAs know that they are helping in the areas that need it! The tasks are normally quite simple and might involve things like: Splitting and moving alternates around Editing questions Editing answers Removing vandalism Recategorizing questions Using the search feature Sorting out related links Cleaning up after a bad user But most of all, being an SPA is a chance to have some fun while on WikiAnswers! If you would like more information on the SPA project or have any questions about being an SPAs, please contact Stupid Little Genius. It's safe for kids if their parent or guardian watches them to makesure they're safe. The reason why is because we don't want kids tosee inappropriate stuff like bad words. So…me kids don't know it's abad word and they might say it. It's best to have people ages 13and older. Well it depends. if you show you are a certain age, the answererswill maybe treat you better explain it better. ex: lets say youwere asking about spiders "Where do spiders webs come from and whatis it made from?" if you do "for my fourth grade project on spiderswhere do spiders webs come from?" they will put it in a way youwould be used to. So i recomend that the child be mature and know everything, so havehad the talks and know things which you would need. There are very less bad words on wikianswers...catergorysupervisors will take care of the vendols.
From the Google Knol article written about WikiAnswers: "Over the years, WikiAnswers.com has enjoyed a colorful progression. With its roots firmly planted in the very beginni…ngs of what is now known as social knowledge, the site evolved from the pioneering Q&A site FAQ Farm. Founded by entrepreneur Chris Whitten in 2002, FAQ Farm rapidly evolved. To capture the essence of what the site was all about and to give it the best possible future, Whitten registered the WikiAnswers.com domain in June 2004. The site and all corresponding domains were acquired by Answers Corporation in November 2006, with the product being re-named WikiAnswers." You can visit Knol for more information and screenshots about the evolving site. See the Related Links.

When it all began for you... Samurai Girl: I was researching for some answers until the site gave me a very amusing answer to my question. The next thing I did was signi…ng up! Eliesheva: I was told about it at work... a long, long time ago... way back when it was still FAQ Farm. Pickleshy: Me, too. There were images of pigs and cows and farmers on the site, because we were "growing" the site and "seeding" questions. It was a cute metaphor, but I definitely like the ubiquitous orange guy better! AliasAlice: I was putting off real work by messing around on the internet, found it by chance, then got addicted. Doditov: I was researching an obscure point of religion for a group reply, and it came up first in the Google search. I don't think I've ever returned to that line of research...but WikiAnswers got another fish! Mooey01: I was in the school library and vampchick ( Krystal ) referred me to it. Eviltechie: I was on answers.com. Found WA as a distraction from work as I had a strict internet filter set up. Ken Saunders: I followed a link from the results of a search on Google and got hooked immediately. Yosef (y528s): My friend @Eliesheva introduced me to it when it launched, it just took a while before I became a user. HonestCzech: I wanted to know the name of the bridge in the Sprint commercial. Answers to almost everything. TheFiddler: I stumbled across Wiki-Answers a couple of times, but I never really paid attention to it. Then when I was doing my homework on the computer, I got bored and fooled around and joined! Mumford68: I had an electrical problem with my car and after doing a lot of searching over a good amount of time I found this site on a search engine. The answers provided allowed me to basically tell the mechanic what the problem was rather than them telling me to leave it there for a couple of days and paying them to diagnose the problem. Katz2: My husband wanted to know what exactly is washing soda, as I searched for the answers I ended up on WikiAnswers. I was just looking around and found some questions asking for English to Spanish translations, I started answering them and them found Geography. I became so involved in cleaning up the category I forgot what I came here for. Never did find out what washing soda was for a long time. Got hooked on the site, big time! Cris: It's the only site available in the office. JRWADDY: My sister is a crossword & quiz addict: I was looking for answers to various Qs for her..... & then I saw Qs about WW2 et al. So after 2 hours reading about the human body I gave up and googled a few times and wound up here, I didn't get an answer though, instead I saw all these questions coming up that I knew, so I answered a few while waiting. Forgot about it and this page for 1,5 years until yesterday, at first convinced it was yahoo answers, 1,5 hour spent on typing my username/pw there , then remembering it was wiki. So came to see if it's still up, and indeed, a bit annoying with people who can't find anything better to do then make nonsense questions, but, kinda addictive, this site ^.- R2y2a2n: I first found out about WikiAnswers when I was quite bored and I wanted something to do. I searched 'stuff to do when your bored' in Google and I found a list of sites and Wikianswers was on a list on a search result! Now I can't get myself off (I'm supposed to be studying now :S) L.M.: I almost forgot that...Well perhaps it's the time when I was finding "why carbon dioxide is released when trees are burnt?" during my revision of geography and someone just answered the same question in wikianswer.I found that this place's really useful and ya help me a lot in study; ) HelpsGood: I was just looking for a site, that helps people, and includes a great -- community active forum.. and found Wikianswers !=) fascinating what the Web can provide, huh. Currently, WikiAnswers is nowhere near shutting down or closing. WikiAnswers is extremely popular, and as long as its popularity stays as it is, WikiAnswers will never shut o…r close down.
It is a site that answers any of your questions. WikiAnswers Community: Decoded Without the wonderful, diverse and knowledgeable members of WikiAnswers, we couldn't have …one of the fastest-growing Q&A communities around! That includes our Contributors, Community Assistants, Supervisors and more. Learn more about the different types of community members below. If you're interested in becoming a Supervisor or finding out more, please contact WikiAnswers @ Answers.com. A contributor supports the overall mission of WikiAnswers: to foster the exchange of information and grow Q&A into a permanent information resource. This includes asking and answering questions, improving existing answers and collaborating with others. These members help the community, including Supervisors, to be more efficient with the wiki aspects of Q&A (asking and answering questions, editing and so on). A CA performs the less exciting tasks, which in turn makes the time that others spend on WikiAnswers more enjoyable and productive. A Category Supervisor oversees one or more categories of interest. Often, those employed (or hobbyists) in a certain field will choose to supervise their category of expertise. Similar to the Category Supervisor, the Floaters are without the responsibilities of overseeing a certain area of the site. Floaters can be activity-specific (i.e. recategorization, question-editing, etc.) or non-specific. A Senior Supervisor - or 'seasoned' Supervisor - is responsible for a top-level category and working/coordinating with all Category Supervisors within that area. This is a highly-experienced Supervisor (typically Senior Supers), who provides support and guidance to newly promoted Supervisors; garnered from their own hands-on experiences working as a Supervisor within the WikiAnswers community. a group of people who live close to one another and often work toward common goals
