'Eliezer of Damascus' appears to have been a servant in Abraham's household that was to have inherited Abraham's estate as permitted by law in the absence of a natural heir. See Genesis 15:2 and 1 Chronicles 23:15.

It is a Hebrew name (el-ee-eh'-zer) meaning God of help. It comes from two Hewbrew root words: first, alemeaning strength or mighty (used only of any deity). Second, ay'-zer meaning aid or help. He is a "type" of the Holy Ghost in the story of Abraham and Isaac just as Abraham is a "type" of God the Father and Isaac being a "type" of Christ the Son.
