George Voinovich (born July 15, 1936) is the senior United States Senator from the state of Ohio. After terms as Lieutenant Governor of Ohio, Mayor of Cleveland, and Governor of Ohio (1991-1999), he successfully won election to the Senate after the retirement of Senator John Glenn in 1998. He became the first person of Serbian ancestry to become a US governor.
