A person who:
Christian religion is the belief that Jesus is the son of God (hence Jesus Christ). It is the belief that God created heaven and earth. He had a son named Jesus who was born of the virgin mary. He died for the sins of the world and was ascended into heaven where he awaits to return to take the rest of the christian race to heaven one day. The christian faith follows the doctorine of the Bible.
Ive talked to a whole lot of Bible believing people across denominations about this: and it boils down to this one statement."A Christian is a person who accepts Jesus as Only Lord and Savior and the Bible as the authoritative word of God." Let me elaborate what this means to your individual life and belief.
Accepting Jesus as Lord is to accept that Jesus is fully God. That He is a person in a Holy Trinity that is the only God in existence, has no beginning and end and created the universe out of nonexistence (See Genesis 1). It is also important to know that all humans have sinned against this Holy universal creator God, and that we all are destined to eternal suffering since we rejected Him who is the source of all blessings. A lot of things about the nature of Jesus can be found in the Nicene Creed, which has been a statement of Christian Bible orthodoxy for centuries.
Accepting Jesus as Only Savior is to accept that Jesus was also fully man at the same time: That He came in the form of a human baby, began preaching at around age 30 to teach us how to live a Godly life, died a terrible death on the cross as atonement for mans sins against a Holy God and rose again on the Third day defeating death. When a person trusts that only Jesus lived a perfect human life, died in our place as a perfect sacrifice for the punishment we deserve and rose again showing that He defeated death, he or she would be considered a saved christian: ie a Child of God. A lot of this can be found in the Apostles Creed, which has also been a statement of Christian Bible orthodoxy for centuries.
So does that mean that you can "accept Jesus and live in sin". No, because that theoretically isnt possible. When a person truly believes these things, he or she would be filled by another person of the Trinity (the Holy Spirit) who would change the person to be more Christlike as time progresses. And when death comes, the person would become a perfect child of God in eternal salvation.
