Best Answer

Denis Sassou Nguesso is the President of the Republic of Congo in 2013. He first took the position on 1997 October 25, ruling until 1992 August 31. Due to political pressures, the government allowed multi-party in 1990, and the position of President was stripped of most of its executive powers in 1991. After the civil war of 1997, Nguesso returned to power on 1997 October 25 and has ruled since. He was re-elected in elections in 2002 and 2009 to 7-year terms; these elections were boycotted by opposition.

The Congo region consists of several countries including the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Please see related questions.
