It is unknown who was involved with the building of the first library, although it is known that the first library was founded around 300 B.C. Aristotle is cited with inspiration for it and King Ptolemy I, the former general and successor to Alexander the great, envisioned the library as the greatest of its kind and as a symbol of Egypt's wealth of knowledge.
