in 1888,L.C,Smith sold his business to John Hunter of Fulton, New York, where they offered both the hammer and hammerless type double barelled shotguns. They underwent bankrupcy proceedings in 1917 and into receivership and continued under limited operation until 1920 when purchased by investers who had only passing interest in manufacture of firearms . they coninued until filling bankruptcy in 1945, at which time their entire assets were purchased by the Marlin Fire Arms Co. they revitalized the firm, renaming it the" L.C.Smith Gun Co." for the production of double shotguns.After a building collapse in 1949 production ceased.The remaining parts and tooling were sent to Marlin's New Haven plant. In 1967 Marlin produced the L.C Smith Side-lock shotguns and discontinued them in 1971.
