Christian Rudolph ka Buddy Ebsen, Jr. [April 2, 1908-July 6, 2003] originally was chosen to play the Scarecrow in the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz. But Raymond Wallace Bulcao ka Ray Bolger [January 10, 1904-January 15, 1987] didn't want to play the Tin Woodman. So he persuaded producer Mervyn LeRoy [October 15, 1900-September 13, 1987] to reassign the roles. Ebsen acted in the role of the Tin Woodman through nine days' of filming. But when he reacted to the toxicity of the aluminum powder in his daily make-up, he was replaced by John Joseph ka Jack Haley, Jr. [August 10, 1898-June 6, 1979].

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009) played the Scarecrow in the 1978 film adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz."

Specifically, the original 1900 book edition of "The Wizard of Oz" was adapted to the screen in 1978 with the modern title of "The Wiz." Michael was an excellent choice, what with the harmonious mix and rigorous demands of the play's action, dances, dialogue, music and songs. He participated in six songs and attributed his spectacular steps to viewing and copying the movements of cheetahs, Gazelles and panthers.
