Dialysis is a artificial process to drain out unwanted water from blood this process is naturally done by kidney. Some however may have damaged or failed kidney which cannot carry out function properly needs dialysis.

There is more to it than that. A lengthy evaluation is given to the potential donor and many medical tests are carried out on heart, liver, kidney, for any infections etc together with family medical history. Depends what you call overweight. I was borderline obese yet was allowed to donate a kidney.
