King Charles II, of England , Scotland and Ireland (1630-1685) and known as the Merry Monarch. Although in law he became king of England in 1649, the revolution prevented him from taking the throne of England and Ireland until 1660. He ruled till his death in 1685 He had many mistresses and a dozen illegitimate children but no legitimate heirs and the throne went to his brother James II on his death.
