There are probably more than one man with the name "Joseph Smith", since both "Joseph" and "Smith" are common names... But; A Joseph Smith was the founder of the Mormon church. He is a "Prophet" for his reported activities during the organization of the church. Others call him greedy and a sexual predator. Which isn't true!!!!

AnswerJoseph Smith was the name of the founder of the Mormon church and translator of the "Book of the Mormon," published in 1830.

Mr. Smith claimed to receive additional revelations from God in addition to the Bible. Such claims contradict the Bible's instructions in Revelation 21:18 which says,?I am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; 19?and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll."

AnswerAs the first answer said, there were tons of Joseph Smiths. One particular Joseph Smith was the leader of the church most commonly known as the Mormon church, however the church's true title is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He only wished to follow the teachings of the Lord and share his revelations. I cannot deny that Revelation states what the above does, but that's not a literal meaning. The verses meant that no one would write false doctrine after that. Even though Revelation is the last book in the Bible it wasn't the last book written, in fact the author of the book wrote after Revelation. The Book of Mormon is what ancient Native Americans wrote of their side of the story of Jesus Christ. If you want to test what I've said, study the Book of Mormon yourself, or contact a local member of the church. Joseph Smith was a righteous man. ANSWER:The Revelation (Not Revelations) is most definitely literal in its admonition not to add or take from anything in that book. The statement above that it is not literal is a lie, probably intended to arrange things so that the Mormon story fits better...that is a terrible error...However, it happens that this threat applies only to the Book of The Revelation. The bible was not written all at once, and when the Revelation was written, the Bible was not put together in the same way we see it today. The beginning of our modern Bible did not take place in earnest until the 1300's, but has been re-translated and organized since those first endeavors. There are book gathered in "The Apocropha" that have been deemed by human beings as less than accurate or contradictory etc, or at odds with the established government... so were not included in the bibles you see today. The primary examples are books regarding great acts or prophecy of women and works having to do with taxes etc. In addition, there have been further scrolls discovered in relatively modern times, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Joseph Smith is believed to have been a petty criminal, thief, con man, liar throughout his life. He claims to have been chosen to receive two golden tablets that he claimed were Americas answer to the word of God, written by a man named migrant Jew named Mormon, inspired by Christ after the crucifixion, during the three days Christ was dead. He established the Church of the Latter Day Saints, married 34 women in his lifetime, seven of them already married to other men. He was murdered as were others who began the religion beside him.

answer:

Joseph Smith was the first latter-day prophet of the Mormon church. Through revelation from God, he was able to restore the true church to the earth after it had been lost in the apostasy. He was righteous, and he was also murdered by people who had been persecuting the Mormons for years. The government actually helped them to kill him. The actual, original book of Mormon was a record of ancient people called lamanites and nephites, and a lot of other -ites. The doctrine and covenants and pearl of great price are revelation received from god.

the following link gives an explanation of some of what Joseph Smith was accused of doing.

It is the opinion of this author that anyone seeking information re: any religion or Religious leader, take research upon themselves and make sure that what they are hearing is accurate. There are two extremes regardless Joseph smith, and no real middle ground whatsoever. Doubtful that he could be both. While I, a biblical scholar do not believe that Christ visited North America and had golden plates for His message. When they came to Moses from God himself, they were stone, not gold...although gold was available. This flies in the face of Jesus' message as for him, wealth was an anathema...a disaster for the soul of men...Further, where Christ was in those three days after his death is covered in the Bible and does not mention Mormon or any earthly visits beyond those to his disciples in that period of time.

ANSWER:

Joseph Smith was an AMAZING man who had a vision of an Angel come to him and tell him of these Golden Plates that were the words of people from many many years before. Joseph Smith was only fourteen when he went to a grove and prayed for help to chose which church to join. Two beings robed in white appeared and told him that he would create a church, and that is what Joseph Smith did. If you have any questions, you may contact a Missionary from the Mormon Church, and note that they have a name tag that states 'Elder' if it is a boy, or 'Sister' if it is a girl, and next to that will be their last name, and under that will be the following: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They may tell you about anything you ask them. The other option here is to go to the following site:

NO RELIGIOUS FREEDOM!

Answer:

Joseph Smith organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (also known as the LDS Church), and although there are rumors that he practiced polygamy, was a thief, liar, and practiced false doctrine, these things are absolutely not true. He was persecuted for founding the Church, thrown in jails for suppoesed 'wrongs' he did, and was illegaly killed while inprisoned. Throughout this he still believed that the Lord was with him. His life shows denial of religious freedom, which should have been granted to him by the government. Here's a really grate song you should check out :

He founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. ^ Joseph Smith did NOT found the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was simply an instrument in God's hands. He restored the Church of Jesus Christ back to the earth under God's guidance.

Mormons believe he was God's first prophet in these 'latter days'.

P.S. We are also called Mormons ^^)

Today, millions revere Joseph Smith Jr. (1805-1844) as the prophet of the "restoration" of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Early American Christianity sought to de-legitimize Catholicism for its monarchical appearance. Many taught the bishops of the Catholic church had lost authority following the deaths of the Apostles. JS claimed at a young age to have beheld many visions of angels and deity and to have been the instrument of God to restore Christ's true church to the earth. On 6 April 1830, JS and five others officially organized the Church of Christ. Since then millions have accepted his claims to revelation and reception of holy priesthood authority. Many churches have sprung up as a result of his Latter-day Saint movement such as: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) based in Utah; the Community of Christ based in Independence, MO; and the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also based in Independence, just to name a few.

Joseph Smith, Jr. was a prophet who saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in vision as a young boy. In this vision he was told that none of the churches at that time could be considered the "one true church" of Jesus Christ, but that he, Joseph, would be an instrument in the Lord's hands to restore the truth to the earth. He subsequently received instruction from other heavenly messengers, translated and published the Book of Mormon, and organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in upstate New York in April of 1830.

Joseph had many detractors and enemies because of his beliefs, and was murdered by mob violence while staying in Carthage Jail in Illinois in June of 1844. However, the church he organized remains one of the fastest growing churches in the United States today, and can be found throughout the world except in a few countries where it is not currently allowed to proselyte.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, just like Moses or Isaiah. Mormons believe that Jesus Christ restored the doctrine and authority of true Christianity (which was lost after the death of the Apostles) to Joseph Smith and directed him to found the Church.
