Winnie the pooh was originally written by AA Milne.
In summer of 1914 a train full of Canadian soldiers pulled into the station in White River, Ontario, Canada. One of the soldiers on board was a young Captain by the name of Harold Colebourn. Captain Colebourn came across a black bear cub. He purchased the cub for $20 and brought the animal along with him on the train ride. His hometown was Winnipeg, Manitoba so the bear's name was shortened to "Winnie."
Everyone was in love with the bear, especially a little boy by the name of Christopher Robin Milne, who was AA Milne's son. And this is where the inspiration for Winnie the Pooh came from.
The Walt Disney Company.
Winnie the Pooh was created by author Alan Milne, but he sold most of the rights to Stephen Slesinger, a producer. After Slesinger's death his wife, Shirley Slesinger, inherited the copyright. She sold the Slesinger rights to the Disney Company in 1961. Daphne Milne, Alan Milne's wife, who inherited additional rights to Winnie after Alan's death, followed suit, licensing her rights to Disney later that same year.
