Korea was a hot war. Cold war means no gunfire. No deaths. A hot war is a shooting war...deaths. Korea was part of the cold war. One "hot" battle of a cold war. It started when the Communist North Koreans INVADED the free South Korean Republic in 1950. Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union urged the North Koreans on in return for the war material he gave them: T-34 Russian Tanks, MiG-15 Jet Fighter Aircraft, and tons of trucks, small arms and ammunition. The war ended when he died in 1953. (By Armistice).

Who to blame? Not quite sure. However, what nation to blame? - I, one South Korean, would say North Korea (skip to number 6). If you want to dig deeper, I say Japan (read on).

Before some of you readers start labelling me as anti-Japanese (which I'm not), let me explain. "Korea" used to be ruled by kings and queens...

1. When Japan colonised what was then "Korea", they executed the Korean ruling family, hence ending the lineage of rulers in "Korea".

2. When WW2 ended and they left, they left it in an unstable state. (End of Japan-talk now... leading to the start of the war.)

3. The wealthier Koreans wanted Korea to be a democracy where one had to work for their earnings, and work harder for more... while the poorer Koreans wanted communism, where everyone is equal.

4. Russia (Soviet Union) and the USA wanted Korea to become a communist or decomcratic nation, respectively.

5. To avoid a huge war, Korea was divided into North Korea and South Korea.

6. North Korea, with the backing of the Soviets, invaded South Korea, to turn it into a unified communist Korea, hence the start of the Korean War...
