Where in the Bible is kinsman redeemer mentioned?

The English translation "kinsman redeemer" only appears six times in the Bible. All of these occurences are in the hyphonated form, and all of them appear in chapters 3 and 4 of the book of Ruth in the Hebrew Scriptures. The same Hebrew form appears in Leviticus regarding inheritance of possessions; in Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, and 2 Samuel regarding restitution for wrong; and in Isaiah regarding the redemption of the Lord. Only the Ruth passages, however translate the Hebrew form as "kinsman-redeemer".

What does kinsman redeemer mean in the book of Ruth?

Kinsman redeemer was a culture practiced in the Nation of Israel's and other communities. In the event that a man got married and all his sons who would carry the family name died then man in his clan who was next in line would marry into that family. That man would assume the name of the dead man so that the children that he bore would be named after the man who had died. In the book of Ruth,Boaz married into the family of Naomi and became the kinsman redeemer. In the book of Gen 38 when the elder son of Judah died, then the second born married Tamar so that he could bear children to his elder brother. When he died before he bore any sons then Judah asked Tamar to return to her home until the other younger son was grown and she could marry him. What is the definition of 'kinsman redeemer'?

It is when a persons relative pays a debt that the person is unable to pay. Jesus is called our kinsman redeemer, because He came to the earth in the form of a man (thus "related" to us) & paid the price for our debt of sin, which we could not pay. The law requires that a sinner be punished by death for their sins. The Bible says All have sinned & come short of the Glory of God. In other words, we are all sinners and have not been able to lay hold on Gods glory. Jesus being sinless died in our place to redeem us from hell. You aren't a recipiant of His payment until you are saved. Read the book of Ruth in the King James Bible to see an account of a kinsman redeemer on the physical level. Read in the New Testament & pray that God will cause you to see it in a spiritual sense & lead you to salvation which is through Jesus Christ & Him alone.
