Kim Il-sung is the 'Eternal President' of North Korea. He first became president on 1972 December 28, and was made Eternal President on 1994 July 8 after his death. His son Kim Jong-il became the 'Supreme Leader' of North Korea after his death. Jong-Il led the country in 2009. He died on 2011 December 17, and was succeeded by his son, Kim Jong-un whom currently acts as dictator and Supreme Leader of North Korea.

However, for actual governance, Kim Il-Sung's grandson, Kim Jong-Un is the Supreme Leader of North Korea. So the equivalent function of "President" in North Korea would be "Supreme Leader", even though there is a "President" in North Korea whose functions are completely different.
