Her Russian name was Marie Alexandranova. She was Danish Princess bny birth. She ended up marrying the future Alexander III after his older brother passed away. She was very popular both as Empress and Dowager Empress. She did escape thru the south of Russia in 1919 on a British battleship. Her sister was the Queen of England from 1901-1910. She died in Denmark in 1928 never believing in the murder of the Tsar and his family.

Nicholas II married Alix, Princess von Hesse-Darmstadt. When she came to Russia she adopted the Russian version Aleksandra Feyordorovna. We know her today as Alexandra.

(As her uncle Edward VII married his aunt Alexandra of Denmark, they were both cousins of George V of Great Britain.)
